    Description

This hand made antique French flute with no serial number from about 1918 or later was entirely gold plated years ago, the original silver plating is wearing off, please see photos.  It is pitched A=440 with C foot and plays in tune.  It comes in a new maple case with a waterproof carbon fiber over-case.  The body and foot joints are both seamed tubes of malechort, or German silver.  It's a tin flute with a much newer solid silver gold plated Powell head joint, basically.  Soldered tone holes, pointed key cup arms, in the Art Deco style.
This flute has been my regular player for decades now.  I am not playing much anymore, obviously, since the pads are like new.
The sound of this flute is phenomenal, close to fantastic.  Perfect for Debussy's Syrinx.
Champelain was heir to the original Godfroy French shop that made the very first modern flute.  Powell's head joint does more than justice to this great instrument, modernizing it.  Gaskets and Delrin stopper the head joint.
When this flute came into my possession, it had original pads and studs which I had removed for modern pads, so the flute has not been played very much.  It was gold plated in the 1990s.  No leaks, it plays easily in all registers.
