Giacomo Puccini Started working on Turandot in 1920 and died in 1924 leaving this work for Franco Alfano to finish by 1926. The first performance took place at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan on April 25 1926, conducted by Arturo Toscanini. The performance included only Puccini's music without Alfano's additions. There's a marked notation on page 353 that indicates where they Stopped performing, this is where Giacomo Puccini's work stopped and Franco Alfano's work began. This topic has been debated, if Toscanini directed the Stop because of a straight refusal to play Alfano's work or out of respect for Puccini's four years of hard work & that he never got to see his vision completed. Maybe a little of both! A great piece that any Opera enthusiast will love.
